THE HOUSE OF WORLD CULTURES http://www.hkw.de/english/index_e.html * European Roma musical festival. 22-25 May. 20.00 - 22.00 * Symposium: Cathedres of Romani language and culture in European Universities ( Paris, Triest, Bucharest, Prague, Njitra), their activity and perspectives of Romology. 22 May 2003. 10.00 - 18.00 * Roma Holocaust conference. 23 - 24 May 2003. 10.00 - 17.00 "Romano Rat" organization would be helding the following events in "Haus der Kulturen der Welt" in Berlin on 22-25 May 2003: - European Romani musical festival - Symposium - Roma Holocaust conference Those events will be held in connection with 60-annual of Auschwitz - Birkenau concentration camp (1943- 2003) and 50-annual of the death of Django Reinhardt (1910 - 1953), a famous Romani musician. We expect that the Festival will be inaugurated by Bundeskanzelar of Germany Mr. Gerhardt Schroeder. Roma musical groups from 14 European countries would be the main participants of this musical festival. The following topics are on agenda of symposium: - What is Romology ? - Research and study subjects of professors and lecturers in universities of Paris, Triest, Bucharest, Prague and Njitra. - Differentiation and standardisation of Romani language. - The value of Romani language for the development of Roma nation - Is it possible to overcome the desolation of Romology in Germany ? - Open questions and unsolved problems of scientific studies in Romology ( the elaboration of a list ) The Roma Holocaust conference will be held according the following outline: - Concentration camp Auschwitz - Birkenau in the history of Roma and Sinti - Testimonies of former concentration camp prisoners in Auschwitz, Auschwitz-Birkeanu and Bergen-Belsen. - Old and new documents on Romani Holocaust - Holocaust in songs and music - Holocaust in literature - Holocaust in movies - The monument dedicated to Roma and Sinti Holocaust victims in Berlin - About Holocaust of Roma and Sinti in school textbooks and encyclopedias - Foundation "Remembrance, responsibility and a future" and the Foundation "The Future". Their responsibility for the future of Roma and Sinti. - Presentation of a reprint issue of "Zigeuner- Buch" -the martirolog of Roma and Sinti who were perished in the Holocaust.
